PURPOSE for WAFW Projects to Address the UN Sustainable Goals

The WAFW Projects are designed for members to put their leadership skills into action by utilizing what they have learned to achieve an outcome. They must identity something that is important/necessary/meaningful to them and lead a project to improve/resolve the condition. As an “action leader” Academy members know that nothing happens without engagement. Taking action is what leaders do!

Each World Academy member must create or join an existing WAFW Project as one of their commitments for the year. They must discover a concern or issue on their campus, in their community, in their country, or in the world, that they commit to improve. The issue must align with one of the UN SDGs. They must

1) State their issue/concern their Project will address
1) Identify the UN SDG it addresses and how their Project it relates to the Goal
2) Announce the Project and Purpose and the outcome(s) it will produce
3) Recruit team members who are aligned with the purpose
4) With the team members, communicate and collaborate with those impacted by the issue to get their ideas and their partnership to ensure cooperation in getting results by working together
5) Create and plan the activities/actions to be taken during the year to address the issue
6) Identify the funds and resources needed to carry out the project and how they will be acquired
7) Develop a schedule for the year and the anticipated changes expected
8) Measure the results of each activity to determine whether change/progress is occurring
9) Adjust and manage the project as needed to stay on target and make progress
10) Describe and celebrate the improvement or eradication of the condition as changes occur
11) Report the results at the end of the year and acknowledge/celebrate the team/partnership for their support
12) Debrief with the team and partners and recognize the use of knowledge and skills from the World Academy that enabled them to produce the results
13) Present the Project at the Annual Women’s Symposium.
14) Determine the future of the Project and designate the leadership and team who will continue to address the issue/concern

This process requires each member to
RECOGNITION of an issue
Take RESPONSIBILITY for addressing it
ENROLL members to assist through TEAMWORK
COMMUNICATE and MARKET the Project and progress
MANAGE time and resources
REPORT results and breakdowns
MEASURE results
PRESENT the Project, progress, and outcomes

The Project enable the members to recognize the skills they have, where additional development is needed, their value as a leader, and the importance of making a difference in the world and in the lives of others.
